Is the course suitable for people going through IUI as well as IVF and ICSI?
Definitely.
What if miscarriage is the problem?
Mind/Body tools such as relaxation and cognitive restructuring are very helpful to women with anxieties around miscarriage.
Is it best to join a group to coincide with a treatment cycle?
There isn't one 'best time' to do it: it's what feels best for you. Many women, including those who have not had IVF before, prefer to do a group before they begin treatment as they get practical information and support as well as mind/body tools to beat anxiety and stress. Other women like to have the support of the group during treatment and the two week wait. We can talk about your needs.
Is the course best for people who have some treatment history?
No. If you are having trouble getting or staying pregnant this course is for you. While plenty of women have said "I wish I'd done this earlier", no one has yet said "I've done this too soon."
Will I be the oldest person in the group?
Groups generally have women in their 20s, 30s and 40s.
You say 'single women welcome', but the focus sounds 'couple-ly'?
Fertility stress can impact on communication with partner, friends and family. Improving communication with loved ones is an important element of the course. But most of the advice/information is relevant to all close relationships. Perhaps you'd like to speak to a single woman who's done the course, for honest feedback?
Are same sex couples welcome?
Of course.
I'm worried that sitting around moaning with a group of women who are as depressed as I am will just make me worse?
It could. So we don't do it. Groups are supportive and moaning is allowed, but it's not what we're there for. The focus is on learning to relax and build coping skills and resilience.
I'm not a group person. I'm very private.
There is no need or pressure to share information or feelings in the whole group if you don't want to. The focus is on learning skills in a supportive atmosphere. That said, some women and couples who haven't told family or friends about their fertility problems do find it a relief to be among people who are experiencing the same issues. However, if it's really the Mind/Body tools you want without the ongoing group support, you might think of signing up for a weekend retreat
Can I come to Session 1 and see if I like it?
No, that would disrupt the creation of the group atmosphere.
I can't make all 10 sessions. Is it still worth attending?
It really depends how many and which sessions you'd miss. Let's discuss it.
